BALTIMORE (AP) — Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah has been made the 4-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday's Preakness Stakes. He drew the unfavorable No. 1 post in the second jewel of the Triple Crown. Derby third-place finisher Dortmund is the second choice in the small field of eight, while Derby runner-up Firing Line is the early third choice.
CHICAGO (AP) — Bulls forward Pau Gasol (POW guh-SAWL') plans to play in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series against Cleveland tomorrow night. The five-time All-Star has missed the past two games because of a strained left hamstring. The Cavaliers can close out the series with a win.
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova has been assessed a technical foul and fined $2,000 by the NBA for his role in a skirmish in last night's Game 5 win over the Bulls. Dellavedova locked his legs around one of Chicago forward Taj Gibson's. Gibson was ejected in the fourth quarter after kicking his leg to free himself from the guard's hold.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Rangers host Washington tonight in a showdown for a spot in the NHL Eastern Conference final. New York forced the seventh and deciding game by winning the last two games in the series. The winner goes on to face Tampa Bay for a spot in the Stanley Cup Final.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Boston's Justin Masterson is headed to the disabled list after showing reduced velocity in his last two starts. Masterson is 2-2 with a 6.37 ERA after signing a $9.5 million, one-year deal to join the Red Sox in December.
