Randall Jeppesen and Sam Penrod reportingOne of Utah County's busiest roads is falling apart, so it's about to get a face-lift.
Those who drive University Parkway near the freeway exit in Orem say it is a mess. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) put a quick fix on the tire-swallowing pot holes earlier this spring, but now crews are going to resurface the stretch from Geneva Road to 400 West.
"The pavement has got to the end of its life, and we need to fix that road and make it smoother and safer," said UDOT spokesman Scott Thompson.
He added, "We had to divert some funding from other projects to really concentrate on that project. That project we didn't have in our plans, but when it fell apart, we wanted to make sure we fixed that main road."
Thompson says crews will be doing the paving overnight, which means the road will be down to one lane in each direction. But they'll try to keep the heavily-used road open during the day.
The project is expected to take about a month.
