HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Many emergency vehicles, their lights flashing, were evident in an area of apartments near the shooting scene where two Hattiesburg police officers were killed. Police have identified two suspects as bothers Curtis and Marvin Banks, both in their 20s. They are regarded as armed and dangerous.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan judge isn't releasing any revised estimate of when he might announce verdicts for the 19 police officers charged in the mob killing of a woman in the capital, Kabul. The judge postponed the verdicts today, saying more time is needed to complete the investigation. The woman had been falsely accused of damaging a copy of the Quran. The killing shocked Afghanistan. Four of 49 defenants have been sentenced to death.

KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — The search for bodies has stopped in a village buried by a landslide in northern Nepal because rescuers were forced to seek safer ground after new avalanches in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. Weather conditions also deteriorated with continuing rainfall and fog. The April 25 earthquake killed more than 8,000 people.

CISCO, Texas (AP) — There's a tropical storm off the Carolina coast, severe weather that spawned tornadoes which killed a person in North Texas ranch and farming country, heavy rain in Oklahoma and snow in other parts of the Plains and Rockies. Forecasters do say Tropical Storm Ana is weakening but other severe weather could persist today.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — The northeastern tip of the Philippines is braced for a powerful typhoon that's getting stronger today. Hundreds of residents have evacuated to higher ground. The storm is forecast to clip the northern Cagayan province, making landfall in Santa Ana township before veering north into the open sea toward southern Japan.
