OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of Oklahoma, as the state tries to recover from a spate of severe weather. The National Weather Service in Norman says nickel- to quarter-sized hail was reported today in southwestern Oklahoma, while heavy rain has been falling in other parts of the state. Tornado watches have also been issued in eastern Colorado, western Kansas and North Texas.
DALLAS (AP) — Crews facing the threat of more storms worked to reopen a North Texas rail line after flooding washed away the tracks. The washout caused four engines and 13 cars to derail yesterday near Valley View, about 50 miles northwest of Dallas. Four crew members had minor injuries. Amtrak passenger trains are being rerouted.
NEW YORK (AP) — Mitsubishi is recalling more than 130,000 cars because of two separate issues that could lead to reduced visibility for drivers and raise the risk of a crash. Nearly 77,000 cars are being recalled because the windshield defroster might fail as a result of a faulty blower motor. More than 53,000 cars are affected by the other recall. Mitsubishi says head lights, tail lights and windshield wipers may not work because of an unstable electronic control unit.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Rick Santorum is hinting that he is close to announcing whether he will again run for president. The Republican former senator from Pennsylvania told a gathering of conservative activists today that he is driven by what he called President Barack Obama's failures on national security. Santorum says threats to the country include Russia, China, Iran and "radical Islam."
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (AP) — Michelle Obama has told graduates at Tuskegee University that the defining story of their school is one of rising hopes for all African Americans. The first lady's speech today at the historically black Alabama university is one of three graduation ceremonies she'll address this year.
