OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A high school student from Gig Harbor has been appointed to the Washington State Board of Education.
Baxter Hershman is a sophomore at Gig Harbor High School. He is the new western Washington student representative to the board. He was appointed to a two-year term after a competitive application process. He replaces Mara Childs, a senior at Shorecrest High School in Shoreline, who will complete her two-year term with the board's May meeting in Pasco.
The board also has an eastern Washington student representative who began her term on the board last year. Madaleine Osmun is a junior at Mt. Spokane High School in Mead.
