NEW YORK (AP) — Eighteen cultural institutions in New York City have received $200,000 each from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
The nonprofit said Thursday that the $3.6 million in grants will fund the organizations' programs in the arts and sciences for children in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Museums, libraries and performing arts and science centers are among the recipients.
They include the American Museum of Natural History, Asia Society, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carnegie Hall, Cooper Hewitt museum and Queens Library.
Carnegie Corporation President Vartan Gregorian praised the institutions for developing educational programs that enhance the curriculum of private and parochial schools.
The foundation was established by Andrew Carnegie in 1911.
