LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The Kuwaiti sheikh who lost an election to lead the International Shooting Sport Federation last year has asked sport's highest court to order a re-vote.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says a joint appeal by Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah and the Kuwait Shooting Federation will be heard on June 8-9.
CAS says Sheikh Salman, a former ISSF vice president, requests the vote to be held again.
Sheikh Salman challenged longtime incumbent Olegario Vazquez Rana of Mexico for the ISSF presidency in Munich in December. Vazquez Rana, a four-time Olympic shooter and 20-year IOC member, won a 165-128 vote to extend a reign which started in 1980.
After the ballot, the ISSF said it would investigate claims of rule-breaking interference by the Kuwaiti government to campaign for votes.
