RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Richmond eighth grader has won a national science award for her work with chickens.

Gracie Goodpasture was honored by the National Science Teachers Association this week with an award given annually to a female student with a strong connection to science. The Hanover County resident attends The Steward School in Henrico County.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1zvIdWu) reports she'll also receive a $1,000 savings bond. Her work included raising and crossbreeding chickens.
