Some marriage and family experts are calling emotional affairs the silent killer of marriages across the country. What is an emotional affair? It is defined as a deep emotional closeness with someone other than a spouse. Emotional affairs are sexually charged friendships filled with secrecy. Even though sexual desires remain unconsummated, eventually this relationship surpasses the importance of the relationship with a spouse.

Emotional affairs are dangerous because they are secretive, subtle and because they distract from giving one's heart and energy to a spouse. They are also dangerous because emotional closeness stimulates even more sharing which results in more closeness, and on and on. When emotionally connected, physical connection is just around the corner.

It is difficult, and for some impossible, to recover a relationship after an affair. The damage comes not only from sex in physical affairs, but mainly from deception. For this reason, emotional affairs are just as damaging as sexual affairs. CLICK HERE to listen to Matt.
