ISTANBUL (AP) — Second-seeded Grigor Dimitrov eased into the quarterfinals of the inaugural Istanbul Open by beating Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday.

Dimitrov never faced a break point in dominating Golubev. Dimitrov will next play Ivan Dodig of Bosnia-Herzegovina, who won his first match against Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 5-7, 7-6 (1), 6-4.

Third-seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay also had to work hard to book his place in the last eight, needing two hours and three sets to beat Ukraine qualifier Teymuraz Gabashvili 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 a third straight time.

Cuevas, who won the Sao Paulo title in February, moves on to face Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil, who beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 7-6 (4), 6-3.

Lajovic rallied from a 4-1 deficit to win the first set but squandered a break to lose the second. Dodig led 3-0 in the third but Lajovic had several chances to pull even at 4-4 before Dodig held serve, and served out the match despite double-faulting on the first match point.
