Amanda Butterfield reportingFor 30 years, Doug Wright has been the voice of KSL Newsradio, and today he was recognized for his service.
Doug began his broadcasting career in high school and has actually been in broadcasting for 40 years. But the majority of his career, 30 years, has been spent working right here at KSL.
You may not know his face as well as you know his voice. Doug is one of the most well recognized commentators in the state, covering everything from movies to politics.
He has been a dominate voice on KSL Newsradio for decades, covering every major story since 1978. "It's been fun to watch the state over the last 30 years here at KSL, and 10 years in radio before that. Wow!" he said.
Doug has received many awards in his years of broadcasting, including induction into the Utah Broadcast Hall of Fame.
Besides hosting "The Doug Wright Show," for the past two years he's appeared every morning on Eyewitness News Today. That's where he recently told us the most memorable local stories he's covered.
"[The] floods of ‘83 here locally, that was really interesting; the old State Street bridge and seeing people fishing in State Street," Doug recalled. "And the Olympics, absolutely incredible. [We] probably will never see anything like that here ever again here in our community. …It's been wonderful to watch the progress of Utah."
To honor the this historic day in his career, Doug took his show on location to The Gateway this morning. He was joined by Gov. Jon Huntsman, who congratulated him on the accomplishment.
"He has a voice that everybody understands and recognizes. When Doug's voice breaks the airwaves, you just know instinctively that integrity and reliable news and good, thoughtful commentary will follow," Huntsman said.
The governor also declared today "Doug Wright Recognition Day."
