SALT LAKE CITY — Two men are in custody after police said one of them led officers on a high-speed chase through the Salt Lake City International Airport entrance Tuesday evening.
Police said the incident started around 9 p.m. when they responded to reports of two men robbing a Salt Lake convenience store.
Officers caught one man who fled on foot, but the other took off in a pickup truck, police said. They pursued the vehicle and clocked it going 90 mph on I-80 toward the airport. By the time the pickup arrived on airport property, witnesses said about 30 police cars were trying to stop it.
Witnesses said police chased the vehicle through the airport passenger pick-up loop for about 10 minutes before it crashed into an unmarked police car.
Witnesses saw him run wearing a backpack, but police were able to capture him.
"I caught him out of the corner of my eye, and that's all she wrote for that guy. I knew he wasn't going anywhere because there were just way too many officers. Just way too many," said Art Meza, who witnesses the incident.
The names of the two arrested men were not immediately released.
