MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — One of Georgia's largest school systems has removed all Blue Bell ice cream products from schools after the company announced a voluntary recall of the products.
Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries issued a voluntary recall Monday night for all of its products on the market after two samples of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream tested positive for listeria, a potentially deadly bacteria.
A Blue Bell executive says the company "cannot say with certainty" how the bacteria was introduced to its facilities. It issued the recall that includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks distributed in 23 states, including Georgia.
Cobb County Schools said in a statement that it removed every type of Blue Bell frozen products from its schools on Tuesday morning in accordance with the district's recall procedure.
