(KSL News) -- Utah County wants to crack down on sexually oriented businesses by tightening zoning restrictions.

County officials are considering a proposed zoning ordinance, similar to ones recently adopted by Spanish Fork, Lindon and Provo.

The new ordinance would would only allow the businesses to set up shop in industrial zones. Under the proposal, these businesses cannot be within 500 feet of any schools, religious buildings, public or private recreation areas or residential areas.

Officials say they're considering the moves in an effort to be proactive, NOT because since such businesses are lining up to locate in Utah County.
