CLEARFIELD — Police are looking for a man who they say caused a woman's death by punching her at a New Year's party.
Alcario Archuleta-Valdez, 32, is charged with third-degree felony criminal homicide by assault for allegedly punching his victim, causing her to fall and hit her head on Jan. 1.
The woman died Jan. 4 from head trauma, according to information filed in 2nd District Court on April 9.
Archuleta-Valdez, of Clearfield, was allegedly drunk at the time. He struck the woman after she approached him following a physical altercation between two other people, charging documents say.
Police said two witnesses reported that they saw Archuleta-Valdez punch the woman.
Archuleta-Valdez pleaded guilty to several felonies in 2014: theft, attempted theft by receiving stolen property, drug possession, criminal mischief, and failure to stop or respond at the command of police. He also pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault, a class A misdemeanor.
He was sentenced in April 2014 to just less than four additional months in the Davis County Jail after serving about four months prior to formal sentencing. Archuleta-Valdez was also ordered to serve three years of probation.
