LAS VEGAS (AP) — Officials say a server capacity issue is stopping Common Core testing in Nevada, Montana and North Dakota. The Nevada Department of Education said students in Clark County had trouble logging in to the Smarter Balanced Assessments. The computerized English-language arts and math tests for grades 3 through 8 are now halted. It's not yet clear when testing can resume.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 24-year-old Carlin man has pleaded no contest to murdering his mother and attempting to murder his brother in a plea deal with prosecutors that will make him eligible for parole in 50 years. Brant Davis has been in jail since he fatally shot his mother, Teresa Black, in the head with a shotgun in March 2013. Prosecutors say investigators never established a motive for what appeared to be unprovoked attacks.
INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. (AP) — Dry conditions in a lingering drought that has made for a dismal skiing season in the Sierra is also going to take a toll on boaters at Lake Tahoe this summer. Several of the busiest boat-launching ramps at the mountain lake are expected to remain closed the entire season due to low water levels, including one of the most popular on Tahoe's northeast shore at Sand Harbor near Incline Village.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Five of Boise State's football games will be televised nationally on Friday nights next season under a package the Mountain West Conference announced that also includes Fresno State hosting Nevada and UNLV on ESPN2. Nevada plays Thursday Nov. 5 at Fresno State, which hosts UNLV on Friday Oct. 16.
