This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

With gasoline prices reaching all-time highs and fuel consumption on the rise, the energy crisis in the United States has grown to epic proportions. Bradley Stevens is aware of this, and with over 30 years of experience as an electrician, he has a good understanding of the situation. He founded his company a year ago to help combat the crisis.

Brad was with his last employer for 17 years. During this time, he took several classes on renewable energy sources. He felt very strongly about the importance of green energy and decided to start his own business, which led to the creation of Green Power Solutions.

Green Power Solutions, located in Midvale, was created to reduce energy consumption by providing renewable energy products including Solar Photovoltaic (or PV) panels, wind turbines and micro hydro applications. Solar PV panels collect solar energy from their location on a building's roof while wind turbines are powered by wind energy, and micro-hydro products are for areas where running water can be used as an energy source.

Brad's dream is to connect Green Power Solutions with residential and commercial builders so the systems can be installed at a building's creation. In many cases, renewable energy products can be included with a mortgage. Brad says Solar PV systems may be more affordable than most people realize with state and federal tax incentives and accelerated depreciations. Commercial projects typically pay for themselves within five years.

Other products that are very economical include solar bathroom lighting. A clear dome with a mirrored tube is installed from the roof to the bathroom, and if the sun is shining, the light doesn't even need to be turned on. Solar-powered attic vent fans that help reduce cooling costs by airing out hot attic spaces are also popular.

Brad hopes Green Power Solutions can continue providing Utah residents and businesses with affordable options for renewable energy sources.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
