FARR WEST, Weber County — A Riverdale man was killed Monday afternoon in a moving accident, officials said.
Ronald Lee Macknight, 39, was in the process of moving a modular home at the Westwood Village Retirement Mobile Home Community at 1111 N. 2000 West. The workers had transported the first part of the modular home to another location and were getting ready to move the second part, according to Lt. Lane Findlay with the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
Just after noon, Macknight and another worker were maneuvering jacks and securing the mobile home from underneath when the trailer shifted and crushed the man. The other man was not injured, Findlay said.
Police do not know why the home fell from the safety jacks, but they believe he was killed instantly, Findlay said.
Weber County sheriff's deputies and fire crews responded to the scene and extracted Macknight and determined he was deceased.
The moving company Macknight was working with, Awnings and More Inc., is family-owned, Findlay said.
"There were several other family members here on scene," Findlay said. "Very emotional and very sad to see something like this happen."
Investigators from the sheriff's office, the State Medical Examiner's Office, CSI, and OSHA investigated the scene for several hours to determine what caused the accident, but the investigation is ongoing, Findlay said.
"It just appears to have been a very terrible accident," Findlay said. "It's just very unfortunate for obviously the victim and the families and the workers that were here on scene."
