MAGNA — A 35-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision after investigators say she drove the wrong way on state Route 201.
Jennifer Lynn Taylor, of Stansbury Park, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Rich Nielson said Taylor was driving 90 to 100 mph in a 2012 Ford Focus just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday. She was traveling east in the westbound lanes, Nielson said.
Several cars reportedly swerved out of the way to avoid being hit before Taylor crashed head-on with a Subaru Legacy near 10000 West. The Focus rolled multiple times, Nielson said. The driver of the Subaru, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered only minor injuries.
Alcohol and prescription drugs were possible factors in the incident based on evidence found at the scene, Nielson said.
Sunday's fatal crash was the second in less than a month involving a wrong-way driver and suspected alcohol use.
Michael "Mikey" McMillian, 27, of South Jordan was killed when his vehicle was struck head-on by another car on I-215 near 1700 East on March 25. The wrong-way driver, Chanel S. Nielsen, 22, was also killed. Investigators say she drove the wrong way on I-15 and I-215 for 5 or 6 miles before crashing.
Nielsen was pronounced dead at the scene. McMillian died a few days after the crash. Investigators were still retracing Nielsen's steps on Monday to figure out where she was going prior to getting into her car. But alcohol was believed to be a factor, said UHP Sgt. Todd Royce.
