NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks have ended with gains on a quiet trading day. Shares were boosted by a jump in oil prices and expectations that the Federal Reserve will be slow to raise interest rates following a weak March jobs report. The S&P 500 gained 13.66 points to close at 2,080.62. The Dow rose 117.61 points to 17,880.85, and the Nasdaq composite rose 30.38 points to 4,917.32.
NEW YORK (AP) — Oil prices jumped $3 a barrel today. The near-month contract for benchmark grade U.S. crude closed at $52.14 a barrel in New York. The rise in prices set off a rally in energy-sector stocks. Transocean, an operator of drilling rigs, Chevron and Exxon Mobil were among those seeing big gains.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Greenpeace says half a dozen activists have boarded a drilling vessel that's crossing the Pacific Ocean on its way to drill on Shell leases in the Arctic Ocean. Shell is confirming that the activists have "begun the process of boarding" the Polar Pioneer. The Polar Pioneer is owned by Transocean and is being transported onboard a heavy-lift vessel. It's one of two drill ships that Royal Dutch Shell hopes to use during the open water season in the Chukchi (chuk-CHEE) Sea off Alaska's northwest Coast.
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina's central bank has sent regulators to inspect Citibank's Buenos Aires headquarters after the leader of the branch was suspended amid a legal battle over the country's debt. The government news agency Telam reports that regulators were assessing whether the bank is able to maintain normal operations. The dispute is the latest fallout from a long-standing legal battle between Argentina and a group of U.S. creditors that refused to accept debt swaps in 2005 and 2010.
CHICAGO (AP) — Baseball fans are paying higher prices as they head to the ballpark for the 2015 season. Major League Baseball's average ticket price is up 3.3 percent this season to $28.94. That's a 3.3 percent increase, the steepest in six years. Boston has the highest average ticket price at $52.34, but that's unchanged from last year. The Kansas City Royals had the largest increase at more than 20 percent, but their average ticket is just $29.76.
