BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A group of Western-state governors has released a report on voluntary efforts in 11 states to conserve the habitat of sage grouse as part of an effort to avoid a federal listing of the bird under the Endangered Species Act. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a deadline of Sept. 30 to decide whether to propose the greater sage grouse as needing protections that could limit ranching as well as oil and gas drilling.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Idaho is among 14 states asking Congress to launch an investigation of the herbal supplements industry and to consider giving the Food and Drug Administration stronger oversight of the industry. The New York attorney general has alleged that DNA tests on certain store-brand supplements found none of the herbs on the labels. Industry groups and some consumer advocates have criticized the testing.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's state parks may soon pursue corporate sponsorships under legislation headed to the governor's desk. The Idaho House voted to allow businesses to put their names on state park signs, picnic shelters and brochures. The director of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation has told lawmakers that permitting corporate sponsorships will help make the park system pay for itself.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise-based Micron Technology Inc. says its net income rose 28 percent in its fiscal second quarter as its sales picked up. Micron said its net income totaled $934 million, or 78 cents per share, in the three months that ended on March 5. The company said it earned 81 cents per share when excluding one-time charges.
