AVILLA, Ind. (AP) — A company that makes orthopedic implants and medical instruments says it's closing its northeastern Indiana plant, threatening the jobs of nearly 130 people.
Warsaw-based Symmetry Medical Inc. announced Monday that its plant in Avilla, about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne, would close in the near future.
A plant in New Bedford, Massachusetts, will also be closing.
The Avilla plant employs 129 people, according to a statement from Massachusetts-based Tecomet, which bought Symmetry's equipment manufacturing business last year.
Tecomet says it will offer affected employees jobs at other locations, if possible.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Dng9pF ) that Tecomet says a series of layoffs will begin mid-summer, culminating in the closure of the Avilla plant at year's end.
That plant makes orthopedic implants and instruments.
