FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — George Mason has hired Dave Paulsen as its men's basketball coach.

Paulsen was a three-time Patriot League coach of the year at Bucknell, taking the Bison to the NCAA Tournament twice.

George Mason announced his hiring Monday, two weeks after the school fired Paul Hewitt, who went 66-67 in four seasons.

Paulsen went 134-94 at Bucknell, where he arrived in 2008.

Before that, he coached Williams, his alma mater, for eight seasons and won the 2003 Division III championship.

George Mason went 9-22 this season, including 4-14 in the Atlantic 10, and lost their opening game in the conference tournament.

Hewitt had replaced Jim Larranaga, who led the Patriots to the Final Four in 2006 and was hired in 2011 by Miami.
