LAS VEGAS (AP) — Friends of a man killed in a Friday hang gliding accident along with an 11-year-old boy say he was an expert in the sport.
Ron Peck, president of a Las Vegas hang gliding club, said Saturday he was trained by Jonathan "Kelly" Harrison.
The 55-year-old was killed Friday along with 11-year-old Arys Moorhead of Farmington, New Mexico, after their hang glider crashed during a tandem flight.
KLAS-TV in Las Vegas reports (http://bit.ly/1D9klrx) that Peck says there are no restrictions on age in the sport, and it's not unusual for children to hang glide with a trained professional.
Las Vegas police said the glider was tethered to a tow truck when it fell into a dry lake bed near Jean, Nevada.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Las Vegas police are investigating the crash.
