INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The South Carolina Stingrays' ECHL-record 23-game winning streak was stopped Saturday night with a 3-2 loss to the Indy Fuel.
The Stingrays, who had also won a league-record 12 straight on the road, finished with the second-longest winning streak in North American professional hockey. The Norfolk Admirals of the AHL won 28 consecutive games during the 2011-12 season.
Justin Holl and Garrett Bembbridge broke a 1-1 tie with goals in the second period for the Fuel. Andrew Rowe scored for South Carolina with 1:17 left in the period, but the Stingrays could get no closer.
Stingrays goalie Jeff Jakaitis, who has won an ECHL-record 15 straight games, got the night off. He was replaced by Keegan Asmundson, who made 20 saves against the Fuel.
South Carolina outscored opponents 100-35 during its winning streak.
