Gary Herbert's signature would create new statewide regulations for ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft while overriding regulations passed by Salt Lake City. The state law would require drivers to be covered with at least $1 million in liability insurance.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former Brigham Young University student is suing a university-contracted apartment complex that he says evicted him after he told his roommates he was attracted to other men. Andrew White's civil lawsuit filed last week says he was physically assaulted by his roommates after they came to believe he was gay. An attorney for the apartment manager declined comment.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A Utah university fraternity has been suspended after a former chapter president was accused of sexual abuse. The Logan Herald Journal reports that 26-year-old Ryan Wray was accused of inappropriately touching a woman who passed out at a Pi Kappa Alpha party in Logan. Wray could not be reached for comment.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert has signed a bill that gives a state commission until late summer to suggest where a state prison may be rebuilt. The bill calls for a special legislative session to give final approval to the site. Utah officials want to relocate the current 700-acre prison in Draper to free up the land for development.
