PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University's president is denying suggestions a male student accused of drugging two female students was given preferential treatment because his father is on the board of trustees.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/19E9IBv ) university president Christina Paxson issued an open letter Thursday saying there's "no evidence whatsoever" the male student's family ties influenced the university's decision to not pursue disciplinary charges.
The university recently dropped its inquiry into drugging allegations by two female students who attended a party hosted Oct. 17 by the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. One student says she was sexually assaulted after the party.
Paxson's letter comes a week after hundreds of students protested what they say is the university's mishandling of the case. Many students say the male student's family ties were influential.
