SALT LAKE CITY — Rocket launches have long captivated the attention and imagination of the public.
Following the successful ground test of the "world's largest" rocket motor, which took place in Promontory Wednesday, we decided to take a look back at standout launches from the past.
Our gallery begins with the first rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in 1950 and includes hightlights from launches including the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and the tragic 1986 Challenger disaster.
