EAST GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) — Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center plans to build an outpatient treatment and research facility on Long Island near the Nassau Coliseum.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano will announce in his State of the County address Wednesday that the county will sell five acres on the southwest side of the coliseum to Sloan Kettering.
Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1C6aUKp ) says the hospital will spend $140 million in private funds to build the 105,000-square-foot facility.
The paper says Mangano declined to provide financial terms of the deal, saying it was still under negotiation.
A Sloan Kettering spokeswoman says its Rockville Centre cancer center will be absorbed into the new facility. Sloan's outpatient cancer center in Commack will remain open.
The new facility is slated to open by 2018.
