WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — State health officials say North Carolina's death toll from influenza this year has reached 183.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1Gquv96) that seven people died in the most recent week where statistics have been tabulated.
The Department of Health and Human Services said about 150 of the victims were age 65 and older, including six of the most recent deaths.
Health officials say there were 107 flu deaths in North Carolina last year.
The typical flu season begins Oct. 1 and ends March 31. Health officials say they think the current flu season reached its peak in mid-January.
