OGDEN, Utah (AP) — The longtime executive editor of the Standard-Examiner, Andy Howell, is resigning.
The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1EOZyYl ) that Howell informed the staff Tuesday in a meeting in the Ogden newsroom. Howell plans to return to Arizona to be closer to family. He says there are family health concerns that need to be addressed.
He was raised in Tucson and graduated from the University of Arizona. Howell joined the newspaper in 1989 and became executive editor in 2003. Howell says he only intended to stay a few years in northern Utah, but ended up having a great ride.
Standard-Examiner Publisher Charles Horton III lauded Howell's work in incorporating more photos and videos into the news operation and pushing for fast, in-depth local coverage.
Horton says the newspaper will launch a national search for a replacement.
