OGDEN — Led by star senior Jesse Wade, Davis dismantled Granger in the first round of the 5A boys basketball tournament Monday, winning 58-30.

Wade, who will attend Gonzaga after serving an LDS mission, was dominant from the start, posting 16 points in the first half alone. He finished with 32 points (11-17 shooting, 5-7 from three), 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while playing all but three minutes of garbage time at the end of the game. Wade was quick to praise his teammates when asked about his stellar performance.

“My teammates – we’ve all got confidence in each other,” Wade said following the game. “When someone’s hot, you just kind of give them the ball, and you expect them to make plays, and we just have that confidence in each other.”

On the other end of the floor, Davis keyed in on 6-foot-9 Granger star Makol Mawien, forcing him into early foul trouble that saw him head to the bench for periods in the first half. Mawien, a senior and University of Utah commit, was held to just 7 points on 2-9 shooting while limited to 21 minutes due to foul trouble.

The Darts threw double and even triple teams at him on every touch of the ball and was able to bottle him up. Wade was again complimentary of the team approach to slowing down the opposing star.

“Cal (Caleb Leonhardt) and Ben (Rigby) did an amazing job defensively on him. They’re studs. They’re not the tallest people, but they work hard.”

Davis moves on to face Pleasant Grove, who defeated Alta earlier Monday, in the next round at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
