WRAY, Colo. (AP) — Schools in two rural communities on Colorado's Eastern Plains are closed after a possible threat was made using the social media app Yik Yak.
Classes were canceled in both Wray and Idalia on Thursday after authorities made school district officials aware of the message.
Idalia superintendent Tim Krouse says the message was general and not targeted at a specific school but he wanted to ensure his 200 students were safe.
Yik Yak allows users to send messages anonymously within geographic areas and has been used before to make threats against schools and individuals. A 20-year-old student from Brooklyn was charged last year with making threats that led to the lockdown of a state college in northern New York.
