Gene Kennedy reporting At the Roper Railyard in South Salt Lake City, workers discovered a corpse around 5:30 this morning.

We know it's not a railyard employee, but no one knows who it is.

Identifying this man will be very tough for two reasons: The fact that he had no identification on him and the condition in which he was found.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police: "It's described as a pretty gruesome scene up there."

A remote-controlled train in the yard hit the victim so hard, police can't identify him.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police Dept.: "It's hard to tell if he was hit he by wheels or the impact of a full frontal impact from the train at this point."

A grisly scene with no clue who the victim is. He may be someone rail security spotted on the property late last night. There was a man wandering around who shouldn't have been there. Security tried to confront him.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police: "He would run away. He would disappear again."

Then around 5:30 this morning, railyard employees found a body.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police: "We don't know if that in fact is the same person, but high probability it is that person, they didn't know who this was."

Investigators best guess is that the victim is a transient in his 30s.

Capt. Tracy Tingey, South Salt Lake Police: "The transients use the railways to get all over the country. We see a lot of it here. If this is a transient we'll have a difficult time identifying him. Usually they're not local; they're from anywhere in the country so it makes the job a little harder."

A medical examiner will do an autopsy and police will look for fingerprints to hopefully I.D. this man. Police say he could be from anywhere in the country and they may never know who he is.
