DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — According to court records, an arsenal of a dozen firearms, along with a big stash of ammunition has been recovered by police from the home of a Chapel Hill, North Carolina, man accused of killing three young Muslims. Craig Stephen Hicks is charged with three counts of murder. The case has sparked international reaction.
MADISON, Ala. (AP) — The Indian government is "extremely disturbed" about an Alabama police officer slamming a grandfather to the ground, causing him to suffer partial paralysis. Police in Madison say the officer responded after a caller said a "skinny black guy" with a toboggan hat was walking in the neighborhood. The man was visiting his son, who lives in the neighborhood. The officer has been arrested and is being fired.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says Islamic State fighters launched a suicide attack on an air base in Iraq's Anbar province. It's estimated that 20-25 militants were either killed by Iraqi forces or set off their explosive vests. It appeared that most, if not all, of the militants were wearing Iraqi uniforms. No Iraqi or U.S. troops were killed or wounded and no US troops were involved in the gunfight.
DENVER (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded more than 300 Enstrom helicopters nationwide. They will be checked for possible cracks like the one that may have caused a crash last month that killed two people in Colorado. The FAA says investigators have determined that the helicopter's rotor blade came off because of a crack in the spindle, which holds the rotor blade in place.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York auction house Christie's says that singer-songwriter Don McLean is selling his manuscript and notes to "American Pie." The eight-minute-long song was released in 1971 and was a No. 1 hit for four weeks in 1972. McLean is selling 16 pages that include the original working manuscript and typed drafts of the song. It's expected to sell for $1 million to $1.5 million when it is auctioned in April.
