CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Attorney General Adam Laxalt says he's assembled experts to help him develop a program that will provide free legal assistance to members of the military.
The attorney general said Thursday that the Office of Military Legal Assistance is a response to military members and veterans who say one of their biggest unmet needs is affordable legal services.
Laxalt said that when he was a Navy JAG, he was restricted in assisting service members who needed help from civilian lawyers working in state courts.
The program would seek out Nevada lawyers to donate pro bono hours to military members, and help connect the two.
Laxalt announced that his advisory committee would include representatives from the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, several bar associations in Nevada and state veteran services agencies.
