TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — A former University of Alabama professor accused of having students buy his brook through his company has been indicted on ethics charges.
An indictment filed in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court says 44-year-old Charles Horton made roughly $378,000 by requiring students to buy a book from Josserand Co. LLC. Alabama Secretary of State records show that Horton is listed as an executive of the publishing company.
State ethics laws prohibit public officials and employees from using their official position for personal gain, or to benefit any business they're associated with.
University spokeswoman Cathy Andreen says Horton is no longer employed with the University of Alabama. Horton was arrested Thursday and is out on $10,000 bond. An email and phone message left for his attorney wasn't immediately returned Tuesday.
