BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Janarius Middleton had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaven Bernard had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to help Jackson State beat Southern U 62-52 on Monday night.

Javeres Brent scored 14 and Raeford Worsham added 10 points and nine rebounds for Jackson State (8-16, 6-5 Southwestern), which outrebounded Southern 44-26, including 21-9 on the offensive glass.

Bernard made a layup and converted a three-point play to spark a 12-0 run, which was capped by a 3 from Middleton and gave Jackson State a 48-40 lead midway through the second half.

Tre Lynch's layup with 9:07 left cut Southern's deficit to six, but it got no closer.

The Jaguars (11-14, 8-3) made just 1 of 7 from 3-point range and hit 4 of 9 free throws in the second half.

Adrian Rodgers led Southern with 15 points and Trelun Banks added 10.
