ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Zach Fong scored a career-high 23 points and Worth Smith hit three big baskets late to give Navy a season sweep of Army for the first time since 2011 with a 67-59 win Saturday in the annual Star Game.
Trailing 57-56 with five minutes to go, Smith scored seven straight points for Navy for a 63-59 lead with 1:18 remaining. Tilman Dunbar made four consecutive free throws in the final minute.
Navy (9-15, 5-7 Patriot League) leads the all-time series 75-57.
Fong, a sophomore starting for injured Brandon Venturini, made five 3-pointers against Boston University on Feb. 4 in his first career start and added five more from the arc against Army. Smith finished with 14 points and blocked three shots to go over 100 in his career. Dunbar added 16 points.
Tanner Plomb scored 17 points and Kevin Ferguson had 12 for the Black Knights (14-9, 5-7).
