This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Being a 100-year-old business is big deal, and this is something that Rob Johnson and Tracie Drage are really proud of. This year marks the official 100th anniversary of Brown Floral, the company they co-own, and Rob and Tracy plan to celebrate big time.
Tracie and Rob bought Brown Floral five years ago and to their credit, kept the whole staff, showing their dedication to the importance of this iconic floral business of Utah. Tracie and Rob attribute much of their success to their amazing staff, many of whom are long-term employees with years of experience. This staff of 20 does creative work every day that Brown Floral delivers with five vehicles going all over the valley. In 2013 they bought a second floral business and feel the transition has been smooth with employees and customers.
With their goal to be the top florist in Salt Lake City, they've continued to focus on the business-to-business market, which they feel is wide open. They applied their business acumen and strategically started a sales and marketing program that focused on business to business. Their success speaks for itself, since they've more than tripled business in just under five years. This is a great example of why Utah remains one of Forbes Magazine's Best States for Business and Careers and why Utah is No. 1 for economic outlook.
Now, back to being 100 years old, here a few fun ways they're going to celebrate this important milestone. Since postage in 2015 was just two cents, they will be having some special weeks during the year where they offer delivery for only two cents. They're coordinating a reunion of Brown family members and former employees later this year. Tracie says Brown Floral is also looking for anyone who is turning 100 this year so they can deliver a special birthday bouquet to them.
