BOSTON (AP) — Eric Fanning spotted up on the right wing for his only 3-point attempt of the game with six seconds left and drained it, then blocked a final shot to finish with 20 points as Boston University defeated Navy 62-59 Wednesday night.
The sophomore Fanning sent Navy's Will Kelly sprawling on his game-winning shot, scoring 20 or better for the third straight game as Boston University (9-13, 5-6 Patriot League) ended a three-game skid.
Navy (8-15, 4-7) had battled back from 10 points down and led 59-58 with just over a minute left when Worth Smith stole the ball and ran for a layup. Fanning hit the second of two free throws with 1:06 left, tying it at 59.
Smith was called for a double dribble, setting up Boston's final possession. Zach Fong, getting his first start in place of Brandon Venturini (ankle), hit five 3-pointers for 15 points. Smith added 14.
