QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Second-seeded Santiago Giraldo of Colombia was knocked out of the Ecuador Open on Wednesday with Spain's Albert Montanes winning 7-6 (1), 7-5 to reach the third round of the clay-court tournament.

In another second-round match, No. 8 Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic won over Renzo Olivo of Argentina 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Top-seeded Feliciano Lopez plays his second-round match on Thursday.

The Quito event is the first in a month of ATP and WTA clay-court tournaments across Latin America, all pointing toward the French Open in three months.
