WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has sent Congress a record $4 trillion budget that would boost tax credits for families and the working poor but also raise taxes on the wealthy. The blueprint for the 2016 budget year that begins Oct. 1 represents a 6.4 percent increase over estimated spending this year. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) says Obama has laid out a plan for more taxes, more spending and more Washington gridlock.
BOSTON (AP) — Boston is trying to dig itself out of a second major winter storm in a week. The snowstorm that dumped more than 19 inches of snow on Chicago has brought accumulations up to 18 inches to the greater Boston area and up to a foot of a wintry mix to places in Connecticut, Rhode Island, southern New Hampshire and Vermont. And now forecasters from Philadelphia to Portland, Maine are warning that "flash freezing" could make roads dangerous.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former hip-hop music mogul Marion "Suge (shug)" Knight has been charged with murder and attempted murder for allegedly striking two men with his pickup truck last week in Compton, California, killing one of them. Prosecutors allege that Knight intended to run down then men after an argument on a movie set. The man killed had been a friend. A judge in Los Angeles also has revoked Knight's $2 million bail, after authorities said he might be a flight risk or intimidate witnesses.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego man who operated a so-called revenge porn website has been convicted of 27 felony charges. Kevin Bollaert faces up to 20 years in prison after being found guilty today of identity theft and extortion. Bollaert operated a website where people posted nude pictures of their ex-lovers. Then the exes would have to pay to have the images taken down.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared Feb. 2 Chris Kyle Day, for the retired Navy SEAL depicted in the blockbuster movie "American Sniper." Kyle was killed two years ago at a North Texas gun range, and the man accused of shooting him is about to go to trial. Flags have been flying at half-staff today in honor of Kyle.
