LA PLAGNE, France (AP) — Oskars Melbardis of Latvia won a four-man bobsled World Cup race on Sunday for his third victory this season.

The Olympic silver medalist became the third European champion from Latvia in the discipline as the race held in the French Alps resort of La Plagne also served as the continental championship.

Melbardis and teammates Daumants Dreiskens, Arvis Vilkaste and Janis Strenga won ahead of Russian pilot Alexander Kasjanov, lagging 0.28 seconds behind.

Francesco Friedrich of Germany, winner of the two-man race on Saturday, was 0.52 back in third.

After six of eight World Cup races, Melbardis extended his overall lead over Friedrich to 185 points.
