NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — D'Shon Taylor scored 16 points and Jeffrey Short added 15 as Norfolk State held off Hampton in the final minutes for a 63-60 victory on Saturday night.

Short tied it at 54-all after converting two free throws with 4:04 left. Taylor then made two from the line, Short hit a jumper, and RaShid Gaston scored five points to give the Spartans a seven-point lead with 1:57 to go.

Hampton's Brian Darden hit a 3 and split a pair of free throws to make it 63-60 with 50 seconds left. Norfolk State missed a 3-point attempt and its final three free throws, but Hampton couldn't get two shots from distance to drop for a chance to tie it.

Gaston scored 13 points for the Spartans (15-9, 8-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). Dwight Meikle had 11 of Hampton's 22 first-half points and finished with 19 to lead the Pirates (8-13, 4-5).
