SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 37-year-old Utah woman has been convicted of using the names of dead people to file federal tax returns.
KSL-TV reports (http://tinyurl.com/oyszx3c ) Jacquelin Boyd of West Jordan pleaded guilty to making a false claim to the IRS.
Prosecutors say she started working in May 2012 to obtain the names, addresses and Social Security numbers of deceased people from a web site California, then had their tax refunds wired to accounts she owns.
Boyd originally was indicted on 21 counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, filing false claims and aggravated identity theft.
But under a plea deal, she pleaded guilty to a single county of filing a false tax return and is expected to be sentenced to just over a year in federal prison at her sentencing set for April 15.
