NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The winter storm pounding the Northeast with snow means an extra night in the Big Easy for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers normally would have flown back to Philadelphia immediately after their road game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday night.

Team spokesman Michael Preston says the club decided instead to tentatively schedule its flight home for around 9 a.m. Central Time on Tuesday in the hope of avoiding the type of air traffic delays that were common in the Northeast on Monday.

Preston says the Sixers were already scheduled to take Tuesday off from practice before hosting Detroit on Wednesday night, so their practice schedule would not be affected even if their flight is delayed until later Tuesday.
