SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Activists who oppose the transport of giant oil-field equipment through parts of Idaho and Washington say they have been contacted by FBI agents. Helen Yost of Moscow says she recently received a text message from someone purporting to be an FBI agent who wanted to talk with her. Yost has been arrested twice while protesting the shipment of equipment to Canada's tar sands oil fields.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A southwest Idaho man accused of offering money for the murder of his ex-girlfriend has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of solicitation to commit aggravated battery. Kenneth Andrew O'Brien was arrested in September and charged with soliciting murder after a witness told police that O'Brien offered an unknown amount of money and the use of his 9mm handgun to commit the act.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Supreme Court has vacated the first-degree murder conviction of a former Nez Perce County sheriff's deputy found guilty of strangling his ex-wife. The justices in a decision announced today ruled that the lower court erred by excluding evidence in Joseph Thomas Jr.'s trial that could have corroborated his claim that Beth Irby-Thomas liked to engage in erotic asphyxiation.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Republican Rep. Mike Simpson is working on a scaled-down plan to create a central Idaho wilderness as groups dismayed with his lack of success on previous efforts attempt to persuade President Barack Obama to designate a national monument. The new version would leave the Sawtooth National Recreation Area intact and create three wilderness areas around it.
