DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — In a story Jan. 17 about the retirement of Lee Enterprises Chief Financial Officer Carl Schmidt, The Associated Press erroneously reported based on a statement from Lee Enterprises that his former employer, Johnson Outdoors, is a component of the SC Johnson Group. Johnson Outdoors is a company owned by the Johnson family. SC Johnson is also owned by the Johnson family, but the companies are not affiliated.

Lee Enterprises announces Chief Financial Officer Carl Schmidt to retire later this year

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Lee Enterprises Inc. has announced that its chief financial officer will retire later this year.

Carl G. Schmidt informed the company, which publishes of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other newspapers, he plans to retire July 1. Schmidt is the vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.

Lee Enterprises chairwoman and CEO Mary Junck says a search for a successor has begun.

The 58-year-old Schmidt joined Lee in 2001. He was previously senior vice president, chief financial officer, secretary and treasurer of Johnson Outdoors.

He began his career in 1978 as a certified public accountant at the KPMG LLP accounting firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, becoming a partner in 1988.
