ROY, Utah (AP) — The police chief in Roy is retiring after decades in law enforcement.
Mike Elliott's last day is Thursday. He told the mayor and City Council in December that he would be retiring but didn't make a public announcement.
The Standard-Examiner first reported on his retirement.
Elliott will become the second Roy police chief to step down in 17 months. He took over the post in July 2013 when Greg Whinham retired suddenly.
Elliott said he wants to spend more time with his wife and enjoy the rest of his life.
The city manager's office says an open investigation into the police department isn't connected to Elliott's retirement. The city wouldn't comment on the specifics of the investigation.
